History of the white tower
The White Tower was built about 1506, the look-out tower for the magnificent Taymouth Castle, home of the Marquis’of Breadalbane, owners of one of the largest estates in Scotland. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert stayed at the Castle during their honeymoon in 1842; they were captivated! For Victoria, it was the start of a love affair with the Scottish Highlands that was to last a lifetime. Empress of India, Queen of the vast British Empire: the world was her oyster but her heart was to ever be in the Highlands and it all began at Taymouth!
